Flag Football Program – Parent FAQs
1. When does the season start and end?
Our season typically begins in early September and runs through mid-November. Games are held on Saturdays, with practices scheduled by individual coaches during the week.
2. Where are games and practices held?
All games take place at Nathan Hale Middle School (unless otherwise noted). Practice times and locations are set by each coach after teams are formed.
3. When are evaluations, and why are they important?
Evaluations are held before the season begins. They are not tryouts—every child plays. The purpose is to assess basic skills so we can create balanced, competitive teams.
4. What equipment does my child need?
- Players should bring:
- Cleats or sneakers
- A water bottle
We will provide jerseys, flags, belts, and footballs. Mouthguards are recommended but optional.
5. How are teams formed?
After evaluations, coaches meet for a draft to place players on teams. This process ensures fairness and balance across all divisions.
6. Can friends or siblings be placed on the same team?
We do our best to accommodate requests, but we cannot guarantee placement. The draft process is designed to keep teams balanced. Siblings in the same division are placed together unless requested otherwise.
7. When will I find out what team my child is on?
Once drafts are complete, families will receive an email with team assignments, coach contact info, and practice schedules.
8. How long are practices and games?
Practices: Usually 1 hour, once or twice a week (coach’s choice).
Games: Typically last about 1 hour on Saturdays.
9. What divisions are available?
Divisions are grouped by grade level (K–2, 3–4, 5–6, 7–8).
10. What is the Code of Conduct for parents and coaches?
We expect all coaches, parents, and players to show respect toward referees, coaches, and other families. Our focus is on fun, teamwork, skill-building, and sportsmanship—not just winning.
11. What happens if it rains?
We monitor the weather closely. If games or evaluations are canceled, parents will be notified via email as soon as a decision is made.
12. Can I volunteer as a coach or assistant?
Yes! We are always looking for coaches and volunteers at every level. Please email us if you are interested in helping.
